Opening a Greenhouse Business Part II
Opening your own greenhouse business is going to be tough for the first year. Be sure that you plan on a back up source of income. A greenhouse is a delicate business, one that you have to build a good reputation so you can get repeat customers.

Why is a greenhouse a delicate business?

Every gardener is different, as is every garden that is planted. No two gardens are ever going to be the same. They will always vary in soil, plant, environment, or even pest problems. Selling plants can be difficult if your buyers do not understand how to plant, grow and keep certain types of plants that have unique needs.

Teaching is going to be a big part of your business. As your business brings in more experienced gardeners who are looking for quality plants, you won’t have as much explaining to do, but in many stages of your business, you will have to teach others how to garden with success. You can even offer classes for novice gardeners.

These classes would represent the basics of gardening, such as how to compost, how to turn a lawn into a garden, how to fertilize with success, how to choose tools and so on. You can run these classes right in the greenhouse, offering them free to all of your customers. As your customers realize that you are a gardening expert you will bring in additional business.

Gaining the respect of your community is important in opening a greenhouse business. Become involved in many aspects of the community. Volunteer at the local school, churches or even by taking care of local graveyards or such. The more your business name is known, the more business and customers you are going to have. Make every aspect of your life reveal something about your business and the type of business that you are in, to make your small business a booming one.
