Opening a Greenhouse Business
Are you interested in opening a business in the greenhouse and gardening world? If you are interested in building a business of your own, making money the side of a regular job or if you want to expand your business so you can include the sale of flowers and vegetables, a greenhouse is a great option.

First, you are going to have to think about where you are going to serve people. If you want to only deal with people locally you’ll want to open a small business with quality products to keep your customers coming back again and again. If you want to open a larger business selling specialty items such as seeds or starters, you will consider a much larger market.

Starting out, you will need a name for your business. Make the name for your business something catchy, but still garden related. In many areas, or in many states I should say, if you include your name in the business name, you do not have to register with the state. If your business name does not include any portion of your name, you may have to file a fictitious name license with your local governing agency. It can be costly to file in some areas. If you use a lawyer or if you are creating a company that is very similar to another person’s name or business it could be very costly.

Another consideration is whether or not you’ll need staff. If you have difficult hours, you may need someone to be available when you are not. There are many people who will shop during the day while others only at night. Express your business hours to all those who you meet and in any advertising you do.

Create a plan. Your plan should include when, where, and how you are going to open your business. Include your business name, what you are going to sell, where you will get supplies and how you can generate income. Of course this will all change over time, but it forces you to seriously look into how you are going to make a go of your dream.
