Greenhouse Retail Business Tip
The size of your greenhouse is going to limit your business. If you have started with a small greenhouse, your business is limited to the number of plants that you can grow in that greenhouse at one time. Turning your gardening hobby to a retail outlet to make money will require a much larger greenhouse, at least ten by twenty feet to get started. Commercial greenhouses are much larger because you need to be able to hold more plants.

Space is a major consideration when starting a retail gardening business. The more space you have, the more plants you can grow, and often you are going to have what customers want and when they want it.

You can add on to the greenhouse you have if you have limited space by butting two smaller greenhouses together, or having two small greenhouses in your landscape. Utilizing all of your space and from the bottom of the greenhouse to the top of the roof, you can easily make money from your personal greenhouse, but you are limited to the space that you have within those walls.

If you want to turn your greenhouse into a retail center, there are various topics that you will have to face to be successful. The most important topic that you are going to have to think about when turning your personal garden into a retail center is what plants are your customers going to want the most. Is it vegetables, flowers, or potted plants? Every garden center is different, producing specialty plants, or plants that are hardy for your grow zone plus disease resistant. The key to operating a greenhouse retail center is having what customer's want, when they want it.

How can you take advantage of the space in your greenhouse? Put shelving on all the walls. You have four walls and you should be using shelving that is going to utilize the space best. Shelving that is about sixteen inches apart for larger plants, and shelving on another wall that is about twelve inches apart is going to allow you to focus on small and large plants alike.

Making the most of your space includes using hanging baskets and containers on the inside and the outside of your greenhouse. In the spring months, you can move containers in and out of the greenhouse so you can work in the greenhouse with less problems.
