Useful Shrubs Shrubs are a small, bush-like plant. Some are green, some will flower, and all should continue to grow throughout the life of your garden. Shrubs are both versatile and valuable because of what they can add to your gardens. They add that finished look, or they can soften the background for your landscape. Most shrubs grow quickly so they will fill in those areas of your gardens that are looking a little bare or thin. You want to know if you have to prune this shrub every year or if it will grow full and round without much additional work on your part.
Deciduous shrubs come in various shapes. Some shrubs branch out, some are rounded, some have branches that arch out and others have branches that spread. Evergreen shrubs are available in different types which include low growing, spreading, those that spread out horizontally and those that grow round, full and upright.
The more rounded shrubs can be used to create informal borders for your gardens, your lawn, or to fill in areas of your gardens that are looking a thin. Mature shrubs will grow to be about four to six feet tall, adding a bit of privacy to your yard or garden without over shading.
Some of the shrubs that you may like to use in your garden and landscape are shrubs that have arching branches. These shrubs add a delicate touch to your backdrop and are very nice looking when in full bloom. Shrubs that have arching branches are Beautybush, Butterfly Bush, The Licala, Slender Deutrzia, Forsythia and the Spirea.
Shrubs give an accent to the architectural features of your home. Choose plants that are very similar to the details in your home design, or shrubs with contrasting feature to change your over all look. E-mail this page Printer-friendly page
