Fragrant Flowers for Gardens
You can create a fragrant garden from flowers of your own choosing. There are many types of fragrant flowers that you will find exciting and beautiful for such a display. In early articles, I wrote about fragrant trees, bushes, shrubs and such, but here we are going to discuss some of the most fragrant flowers around.

Geraniums are highly scented flowers that you can enjoy in containers or in the gardens surrounding your greenhouse. Due to the vast variety of sizes and colors there are more than two hundred types of geraniums to choose from.

Gardenias are another plant that fills the air with a sweet scent. Gardenias are not hardy enough to survive cold winters, but you can keep them in your greenhouse over the winter months for blooming in the next summer season.

Bulbs such as hyacinths and lilies are other types of fragrant plants that you can grow indoors or outdoors and that will add a sweet smell to the air. Protecting bulbs from the cold winter is a must, and when you bring them indoors for the winter months, you can plant a few for blooming.

Petunias are an annual plant that is available in a complete array of colors and sizes. You can find spreading petunias, hanging petunias and container petunias for decorating your gardens and your home.

Stock is another plant that will add the sweet scent of clover to your gardens. Stock is a taller plant that often requires staking with a cage or using a trellis. This tall plant will grow to be over a foot tall, and will grow to be upwards of two foot tall as it matures in the third and fourth years.

Sweet alyssum is a small low growing plant that is available in an array of colors. Allyssum grows to be anywhere from just two inches tall to ten inches tall with low greenery covering the soil, with huge numbers of flowers covering the plant.

One plant that you don’t hear much about is the Flowering Tobacco plant. This is a plant that has oval shaped leaves, with trumpet shaped flowers that cover the plants. The flowers will close during the day, and open during the evenings when the sweet scent of the plant is then released
